That is how Carmen Sternwood, a character of The Big Sleep directed by Howard Hawks, who pretended a polite girl sucking her thumb and then, in the blink of an eye, aimed with a gun to a man caught in a snare, could smell.

It is a perfume of Histoires de Parfums brand – 1876 Mata Hari, in which the main ingredient was a rare Moldavian rose. In this case we can speak of a mockery of fate. It's almost funny. Eventually, this legendary femme fatale was killed shot dead by men. And even standing in a front of a firing squad she still exuded so much charm that out of a dozen soldiers only one shot at her. And how does a legendary woman-spy smell? There is a rose again, this time accompanied by bitter cumin, which resembles the smell of wormwood. There is also a warm guaiac wood. This, in turn, evokes a scent of honey, melted sugar and sunshine. Iris introduces a little greenery to this composition, but still Mata Hari preserves a smell of noir. The rose shows spikes as if wrapped in silk. The whole may seem cosy and soft perfume, but only until you are stunk by hidden thorns. It is seductively durable, however sweet and bitter, cold and warm at the same time. It really drives you crazy, because you will never know what it smells like. But who said that everything had to be said. A female-vamp is a woman of mystery.
